 Junior Warriors Youth Football

Online registration here

This program gives our area grade school athletes a possible three or four years of tackle football experience prior to high school. It exists to teach players the basic skills of tackle football, teamwork and good sportsmanship, under the guidance of Christian coaches.

All boys, who will be entering 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th grade in the fall of 2019, and are members of our area Lutheran congregations, are eligible to play. This program gives these athletes the opportunity to experience football with fellow Christians.
Divisions and Conference play
Assuming numbers are sufficient, we field separate 6th, 7th- and 8th-grade teams. We are members of the Dane and Jefferson County Youth Football League and compete against teams from Jefferson, Lake Mills, Cambridge, Marshall, Columbus, Whitewater and McFarland.

Practices begin Monday August 5, from 5:30–7:30 p.m. and run every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday leading up to the first game on Saturday, August 24. Thereafter, practices are Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5–7 p.m. Games are usually on Saturdays. The season includes 7 games, with the last game scheduled for October 12, 2019. A definitive game and practice schedule is set by the time we mail out forms to registered players in spring.

Participants are required to have an up-to-date physical (within the last two years). Each player is equipped with quality equipment from Riddell. Prospective coaches receive instruction from Lakeside football staff. Sleds, dummies and other appropriate equipment are provided by Lakeside. The Lakeside Lutheran High School athletic trainer is present at all games.

Registration fees
Registration is $115.00 per player for those registered online by April 1, 2019. The fee includes a free t-shirt for the players. A $140 late registration fee per player may be submitted after this cutoff date.
Please register as early as possible, or e-mail Paul Bauer at pbauer@llhs.org to let us know of your plans to register or your decision status. We are always anxious to see 20-plus boys signed up for each of the three levels in order to plan. In recent years we have had to open the 6th grade program up to 5th graders in order to field a team. We prefer not to, but if it’s again necessary, we would like to know as far in advance as possible.

Please also keep in mind there are opportunities for parent involvement on game days, such as being a part of the chain gang. We ask that you consider helping out so that home games can run as smoothly as possible.

After you register, we mail out four forms, including a physical form. They all need to be complete and submitted before equipment is issued.

Register by April 1 before fee increases!

Lady Junior Warrior Basketball Club 2018-19

GRADES 5-8 – The girls’ basketball club is open to all girls attending grades 5-8 at one of our Lakeside federation Lutheran elementary schools; 8th graders should have the desire to enroll at Lakeside for high school; club involvement is not intended to replace participation on Lutheran elementary school teams.

GOALS – Our goals are to further develop each girl's skills through quality instruction and help each one gain confidence in her ability to contribute both offensively and defensively, to provide competitive opportunities to challenge each girl, to encourage each girl to continue playing at the high school level, and to have fun while building Christian friendships.

TRYOUTS – Two tryout sessions have been scheduled: Sunday September 9 and Sunday September 23, both from 6-8 pm at Lakeside; girls should plan to attend both tryouts; typically, teams will be comprised of about 12 players.

8th GRADE COMPETITION – An 8th grade team will compete in 10 to 12 one-day tournaments during months of November through March; depending on interest, another 8th grade team will compete in the Eastern Suburban Youth Basketball League (ESYBL) on Saturdays from October 27 thru December 8 (skipping November 24); these games are played at various communities within an hour of driving time from Lakeside; usually there are 2 games each Saturday.

5th, 6th, and 7th GRADE COMPETITION – Grades 5-7 will compete in the Eastern Suburban Youth Basketball League (ESYBL) on Saturdays from October 27 thru December 8 (skipping November 24); these games are played at various communities within an hour of driving time from Lakeside; usually there are 2 games each Saturday.

8th GRADE TOURNAMENT TEAM PRACTICES – After teams are determined, the 8th grade tournament team will practice Mondays and Wednesdays, likely starting Wednesday October 31 (skipping Wednesdays during Advent and Lent); these practices are also scheduled from 6-8 pm at Lakeside; note that coaches may adjust their practice dates / times.

ESYBL PRACTICES – The ESYBL teams (grades 5-7 plus a second 8th grade team if numbers are sufficient) will practice Sunday October 7, Wednesday October 17, Sunday October 21, Wednesday October 24, Wednesday October 31, Wednesday November 7, Wednesday November 14, Monday November 19, Wednesday November 28, and Monday December 3; these practices are also scheduled from 6-8 pm at Lakeside; note that coaches may adjust their practice dates / times.

REGISTER – To register for tryouts, download the registration / medical release form, fill it out, and send it to the attention of Coach Matthies at Lakeside (231 Woodland Beach Rd, Lake Mills WI 53551), or simply send Coach Matthies an email matthies@llhs.org indicating your daughter's interest and bring the filled-out form to the 1st tryout.

COMMITMENT – Academic responsibility should be a top priority for the girls; plus, each girl should consider how participation may impact her family; attendance at club practices / competitions is expected unless excused by the coach; school / church activities should take always priority.

COST – No payment will be due until after tryouts; cost will be about $200 for the 8th grade tournament team and about $100 for the ESYBL teams; monies will cover tournament / league entry fees, team expenses, a reversible game jersey, and a warm-up t-shirt.

Feel free to contact Coach Matthies for additional information.

I pray that you…may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ. (Ephesians 3:17-18)

Junior Warrior Boys Basketball Club

The Junior Warrior Boys Basketball Club offers students the opportunity to participate on a club team with other players from within the LLHS Federation who have a similar interest and ability in basketball. The program will support a team at each grade level 6-8. 5th graders may try out for the 6th-grade team.

Practices begin in November after tryouts. The season concludes in late March. Each grade level team carries a squad of up to twelve players. Teams practice at Lakeside or local Federation gyms and participate in tournaments at a variety of different locations throughout the state. The Junior Warrior program is not intended to replace participation with your Federation grade school team. It is intended to offer kids who have the passion, drive, and ability the opportunity to play basketball at a higher level within a Christian environment.

Registration fees are $140 for the first child and $110 for any additional players from the same family. These fees help defray the cost of uniforms, gym fees, and tournament entry fees.

Tryouts for the 2018-19 Junior Warrior Boys Basketball Club teams will be:

Monday, October 29
Monday, November 5

Players are encouraged to attend both tryouts. All players should fill out a registration form (download below when available) and send it to Coach DeNoyer at LLHS. All players within the LLHS Federation are encouraged to tryout but we ask players and parents to consider the following expectations before committing to our program:

  • 8th-grade players will need to register for their freshman year at LLHS by December.
  • 6th- and 7th-grade players should be open to considering LLHS.
  • Teams will begin practices in November; players are expected to attend practices unless excused by the coach (grade school practices, games, and school functions will be excused).
  • Games consist of 5-6 selected weekend tournaments.
  • Academic responsibility and staying up to date on homework should be a top priority.
  • Families need to consider how participation will impact family time.

All players/families will be contacted by e-mail concerning the selection of each team shortly after the last tryout. Once teams are selected we will hold a parent meeting to collect the $140 player fee and size players for their uniforms.

Our main purpose and goal is the development of our younger players. Our coaching staff will create a positive learning experience and provide quality instruction at each practice. Players will be challenged to develop their individual skills as players while working together for the common good of their team. Along the way, players will develop great friendships with future classmates and have a great time playing basketball.

Once again, our staff encourages all of you to consider trying out and joining our program. If the player fee hinders a player from trying out for the team, contact Coach DeNoyer so we can make arrangements to allow your son to participate. If you have any further questions or concerns please feel free to contact Coach DeNoyer at any time.

Serving Him,

Kirk DeNoyer
