Junior Warrior Basketball: Boys & Girls, gr. 5-8

Junior Warrior Boys Basketball Club

The Junior Warrior Boys Basketball Club offers students the opportunity to participate on a club team with other players from within the LLHS Federation who have a similar interest and ability in basketball. The program will support a team at each grade level 6-8. 5th graders may try out for the 6th grade team.

Practices begin in November after tryouts. The season concludes in late March. Each grade level team carries a squad of up to twelve players. Teams practice at Lakeside or local Federation gyms and participate in tournaments at a variety of different locations throughout the state. The Junior Warrior program is not intended to replace participation with your Federation grade school team. It is intended to offer kids who have the passion, drive, and ability the opportunity to play basketball at a higher level within a Christian environment.

Registration fees are $140 for the first child and $110 for any additional players from the same family. These fees help defray the cost of uniforms, gym fees, and tournament entry fees.

Tryouts for the 2017-18 Junior Warrior Boys Basketball Club teams were conducted on:

Monday, October 30
Monday, November 6

Players are encouraged to attend both tryouts. All players should fill out a registration form (available for download below) and send it to Coach DeNoyer at LLHS. All players within the LLHS Federation are encouraged to tryout but we ask players and parents to consider the following expectations before committing to our program:

  • Eighth grade players will need to register for their freshman year at LLHS by December.
  • Sixth and seventh grade players should be open to considering LLHS.
  • Teams will begin practices in November; players are expected to attend practices unless excused by the coach (grade school practices, games, and school functions will be excused).
  • Games consist of 5-6 selected weekend tournaments.
  • Academic responsibility and staying up to date on homework should be a top priority.
  • Families need to consider how participation will impact family time.

All players/families will be contacted by e-mail concerning the selection of each team shortly after the last tryout. Once teams are selected we will hold a parent meeting to collect the $140 player fee and size players for their uniforms.

Our main purpose and goal is the development of our younger players. Our coaching staff will create a positive learning experience and provide quality instruction at each practice. Players will be challenged to develop their individual skills as players while working together for the common good of their team. Along the way, players will develop great friendships with future classmates and have a great time playing basketball.

Once again, our staff encourages all of you to consider trying out and joining our program. If the player fee hinders a player from trying out for the team, contact Coach DeNoyer so we can make arrangements to allow your son to participate. If you have any further questions or concerns please feel free to contact Coach DeNoyer at any time.

Serving Him,

Kirk DeNoyer

Lady Junior Warrior Basketball Club 2017-18

GRADES 5-8 – The girls’ basketball club is open to all girls attending grades 5-8 at one of our Lakeside federation Lutheran elementary schools; club involvement is not intended to replace participation on Lutheran elementary school teams.

GOALS – Our goals are to provide quality instruction to build each girl's skills to help her gain confidence in her ability to contribute both offensively and defensively, to provide competitive opportunities to challenge each girl, to encourage each girl to continue playing at the high school level, and to build Christian friendships.

TRYOUTS – Two tryout sessions have been scheduled: Sunday, September 24, and Sunday, October 8, from 6-8 pm; these tryouts will be held at Lakeside; girls should plan to attend both tryouts; typically, teams will be comprised of about 12 players.

PRACTICES – After teams are determined, 3 additional practices have been schedule: Wednesday, October 18, Wednesday, October 25, and Wednesday, November 1; these practices will also run from 6-8 pm at Lakeside; additional practices during November and December are to still be determined by coaches.

COACHES – Grade 8 Jared Matthies; Grade 7 Rick Cody; Grade 6 Ben Rank; Grade 5 Hannah Hackbarth.

8TH GRADE COMPETITION – Grade 8 will compete in 4 one-day tournaments: Saturday, November 4 (Appleton), Saturday, November 11 (Poynette), Sunday, November 19 (Wisconsin Dells), and Sunday, December 10 (Muskego).

5th, 6th, and 7th GRADE COMPETITION – Grades 5-7 will compete in the Eastern Suburban Youth Basketball League on Saturdays from October 28 thru December 9 (skipping Thanksgiving weekend); these games are played at various communities within an hour of driving time from Lakeside; usually, there are 2 games each Saturday.

COMMITMENT – Academic responsibility should be a top priority for the girls; in addition, each girl should consider how participation may impact her family; attendance at club practices and competitions is expected unless excused by the coach; school and church activities should take priority over club involvement.

COST – No payment will be due until after tryouts; cost will be about $125 for 8th graders and about $100 for 5th through 7th graders; monies will cover league entry fees, team expenses, a reversible game jersey, and a warm-up t-shirt
