Veterans Day Observance

On Wednesday, Nov. 8 we were blessed to welcome 88 people—veterans and their guests—to campus for our special Veterans Day Observance. Of those guests, 8 were Forever Warriors.

Thanks to Lakeside dad AJ McKinney for sharing his story. McKinney served on active duty from 2007-2018 as an infantryman. AJ deployed multiple times in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom during the Surge, Sovereignty, and New Dawn campaigns. He retired from the US Army as a Staff Sergeant. After military service, AJ has worked with Team Rubicon and Team Red, White, and Blue. He currently serves as the Wounded Warrior Peer Leader for the Southern Wisconsin/ Northern Illinois Region out of the Chicago office. AJ is married to Danielle (DeGolier), and has two children, Karson and Riglei, who attend Lakeside Lutheran and Holy Cross Lutheran, respectively. AJ also volunteers his time as a football coach at Lakeside.

Sophomore Natalie Popp, who started an organization called Teens for Heroes, organized a Mail Call for all the veterans. She coordinated thank you letters and drawings from Lakeside federation grade schools as well as LLHS students.

Pastor Nate Abrahamson, who serves at Abiding Shepherd, Cottage Grove & Fort Atkinson, gave the chapel message.
