Math Team

Each year students are given the opportunity to use their God-given talents by participating in several math meets. Meets are held on campus, virtually, or off campus.

Madison Area Math League – These competitions are all after school in Madison. They begin at 4:15 PM and end about 5:30PM. We ride over together on a bus and miss part of the last hour of school. Students may go home with parents after the meet or ride the bus back. All are welcome to go to St. Paul Lake Mills during Advent and Lent if time is tight to make home church services on time.

Capitol Conference Fall Meet – This meet takes place at Lakeside during period 2 and homeroom. All students participating will be excused from their 2nd hour class. This competition usually involves the most students. I will need at least 16 students from each grade. Date TBD end of November or early in December.

In Fall 2021, on the varsity level, Team #1 took first and Team #2 took third. 4 of the varsity teams placed in the top 6 spots! Individually, Austin Schwab placed third, and Doug Weittenhiller and James DeNoyer tied for fifth. On the JV level, Lakeside Team #1 took first and Team #2 took third. Individually, Joseph Metzger took third. and Maria Vik took second. As a bonus . . . We love how many of our Warriors participate in math meets! While most schools take 1 or 2 teams, we fielded SIX varsity teams. That's a lot of mathletes!

American Mathematics Competition – This is the largest math competition in the country. Doing well in this competition draws the attention of colleges. A few Lakeside students have been asked to be on the Wisconsin Math Team through their scores in this competition. This competition is also taken at Lakeside during the day. Mathletes miss the first two class periods that day.

Capitol Conference Spring Meet – Only 4 students from each class will be invited to this math meet.

MLC Meet Math – This consists of four different competitions. Each teacher proctors the tests right in math class.
