Andy Asmus

I have served at Lakeside Lutheran High School since July of 2003. Prior to Lakeside, I served at St. Matthew, Oconomowoc as 6th grade teacher, Athletic Director and coach of many sports from December of 1994 to June of 2003. I was blessed to learn from great leadership and ministry role models.

I attended St. Mark’s Lutheran School in Watertown, Wisconsin graduating in 1984.

I am a proud graduate of Lakeside Lutheran High School, class of 1988, where I lettered in Football, Basketball and Baseball. I proudly played for football for Mark Toepel and basketball for Wisconsin State Basketball High School Hall of Fame coach Dale Walz.

I graduated from Dr. Martin Luther College (now Martin Luther College) in the winter of 1994 with a BS in Education. My road to the ministry was not without adversity. Great lessons were learned.

In 1996, I married Gretchen (nee) Thiesfeldt and we have three daughters: Sofie (LLHS '18), Josie (LLHS '20), and Shayla (LLHS '23). We currently live in Lake Mills and attend St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

At Lakeside, I currently teach World History and Economics, but have previously taught Strength Training, Freshman and Sophomore Physical Education, Health, East and West Geography.

As a History teacher, I praise God every day as I marvel at the truth that God takes the sinful actions of unbelievers and creates a path to accomplish his good and gracious will by continuing the path by which the Gospel message serves his church today. The salvation truth will stand the test of time!

My greatest joys and challenges are found in coaching. I have been coaching football at Lakeside since 2003, first as a freshman assistant coach, then in 2005 as junior varsity head coach, and since 2010 I have been the varsity offensive coordinator. I have been coaching high school football for 16 years and girls’ basketball for 25 years.

In 2003 I started coaching freshmen girls’ basketball at Lakeside. After 7 years, in 2010 I became the head JV girls’ coach and also serve as a varsity assistant. In 2020, I became the head varsity girls' coach.

I guess I’m a bit of a Jack-of-all-Trades. I help coordinate the Winter B-team basketball tip-off tournament in December and the A-team basketball tournament in February. I drive school bus on many occasions for our sports teams and serve as the Public Address Announcer for Varsity Boys’ Basketball since 2008 and Varsity Girls’ Volleyball since 2013.

I look forward to the blessings and challenges that the future brings this public ministry that the Lords has blessed me with.
