Advent Begins

While traditions and meanings are different in churches, what follows is an explanation of the Advent wreath you may have at home and you will see at church.

The Advent candles are in an evergreen wreath to symbolize the eternity of God. Usually three purple candles are used for each of the weeks in Advent. The last candle is rose or pink to represent joy.

The candles represent the Hope, Love, Joy, and Peace that Jesus brings. The center white candle, The Christ Candle, is lit on Christmas reminding Christians that Jesus is the Light of the World.
