Caleb Schmiege ‘08 was awarded the 2012 Martin Luther College Student Senate Fine Arts Award, presented to a graduating student “who has excelled in the area of music, musical performance, drama, or campus publications throughout his college career.”
Katie Schommer ‘08 was one of only 15 selected in 2012 to enter the Clinical Psychology program at Wisconsin School of Professional Psychology in Milwaukee. She has entered the 5-year Ph.D. program.
Zachary Woolever ‘08 appeared on a 2012 episode of the Travel Channel’s Man v. Food as he participated in “The Gravedigger Challenge,” wherein a Green Bay restaurant challenges 2 people to finish a 93 oz. burger named after Packer player Gilbert Brown.
Jaime (Eternick ‘07) and Andrew Danner were married on July 20, 2012. They live in Colorado Springs, where Andrew is Principal at Salem Lutheran and Jaime volunteers with their church and school.
Billy and Hannah (Kuehl ‘07) Luetzow ‘07 were married on June 30, 2012 at Christ Ev. Lutheran in Pewaukee.
Rachel Mattke ‘07 and Brandon VerVelde are engaged to be married on May 19, 2012 at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Columbus, WI. Rachel received a degree in political science and economics from UW-Whitewater in May 2011. Both work as legislative aides in the state Capitol in Madison.
Matt (‘07) and Zach (‘11) Meinel were among 100 U.S. athletes racing down a 400m course in St. Paul in January 2013 to advance to finals of the Red Bull Crashed Ice World Championship, showcasing the sport of ice cross downhill. Athletes race four at a time shoulder-to-shoulder down a man-made ice track. Dressed in full pads and hockey skates, they maneuver through hairpin turns, harrowing drops and intimidating jumps ... all while reaching speeds to 40 mph.
Malinda Probst (‘07) serves in the first class of FEMA Corps, which is a partnership between FEMA and Americorps. She’s been part of an assistance team for Superstorm Sandy cleanup in New York. Second from right in the photo, part of her tour November 2012 included, in her words, “a quick ‘bro hug’” from President Obama. Thanks for serving, Lindy!
Megan Behl (‘06) was commissioned as the Nurse in Charge at the WELS Central African Medical Mission on March 10, 2013. Megan will live and serve for 3 years in Lilongwe, Malawi, where 4 days a week she’ll drive with local staff to one of 4 remote villages to provide health services to about 200 patients per day.
John Fenske ‘06 was awarded the 2012 annual Golden Lyre Award, in recognition of talent and contributions to the WLC music program.
Christopher (‘06) and Sasha (Bolwerk) Schallert were married at St. Paul, Fort Atkinson on December 28, 2012. The couple live in New Ulm, MN while Christopher finishes his last year at Martin Luther College.
Jena (Eternick ‘05) and Joshua Bleeker were married on June 16, 2012. They live in Madison while Jena works at Farmers and Merchants Bank in Waterloo and Josh works at Nasco in Fort Atkinson.
Keith (‘05) and Monica Peterson celebrate 5 years of marriage in August 2013. They met at Bethany Lutheran College and are both graduates of BLC. Keith is in his last year of study at Minnesota State University–Mankato for an advanced degree in Social Work, with anticipated graduation in December 2013. They live in North Mankato.
Zach and Brittany (Veale ‘02) Kuehl ‘05 were married on August 4, 2012 at St. Paul Ev. in Fort Atkinson.
Ben Lundsten ‘05 was part of a Bethany Lutheran College student team that won the 2011 Red Eye Film Festival and a national first place finish in the Small College Video/Broadcast competition of the Broadcast Education Association (BEA) Festival of Media Arts, for the short film Leaf Me Alone. Jeff ‘05 and Rachel Mauer were married August 8, 2009. Both UW-Madison graduates, they live in San Antonio, where Jeff is in the Interservice Physician Assistant Program (IPAP) through the Army National Guard. They’ll move at the end of 2012 (location currently unknown) to begin Phase 2 of the program before returning to Wisconsin in 2014.

Whitney (Pfeifer ‘05) and Matthew Brown were married August 4, 2012 at St. Peter in Helenville. Whitney is teaching fourth grade at Cambridge Elementary School, where she recently received “Topnotch Teacher” recognition from channel3000.com (CBS news, Madison). Matthew works at Mercy Hospital in Janesville. They live outside Jefferson.
Christa (Doelger ‘04) and Jeremy Poole had Owen Andrew on May 29, 2010, Noah Jeremy on June 21, 2011 and baby Poole #3 is due November 2012! The Pooles live in Janesville.
Caroline (Corlett ‘03) and Brandon Wales welcomed their first child on May 17, 2011. Grace Alice is the first grandchild on both sides of the family and lives with her parents in St. Paul, MN.
Mckenna Kimberly Fry, daughter of Jason ‘03 and Kayla Fry, was born July 8, 2012 at 7 lbs. 1 oz. and was baptized on the 11th before leaving the hospital. Jason says “God has been gracious to us as He blessed us with a miracle.” On January 8, 2012, Jason began serving as Staff Minister of Youth and Adult Discipleship at Fount of Life Lutheran Church in Colorado Springs.

Katie Huebner ‘02 writes: “After graduating from WLC in 2006, I worked in Milwaukee 2 years before going overseas. I worked with our WELS church in Tirana, Albania, teaching English as a form of outreach. After a year, I returned to the U.S., to Wausau, WI. Returning to school after a year of work, I graduated from MLC in May 2012 and I am currently living in Hong Kong as an assistant English teacher at Immanuel Lutheran College, a Christian high school. I still wear my Warrior blue and get excited when I hear positive Lakeside updates. May God continue to bless Lakeside!”
Brenda (Lenser ‘02) Garrison recently represented the Jefferson County Dental Society as its Vice-President when she presented a check to assist with the operation of the Jefferson County Community Dental Clinic. Brenda practices at Highland Dentistry in Fort Atkinson.

Kevin ‘98 and Jennifer Poston announce the birth of their daughter, Elliana (Ella) Grace Poston, born January 28, 2012. She is their fifth child and first daughter. She is sister to Joshua (9), Jonah (6), Conner (4) and Tyler (2). The Postons live in Watertown.
Laura Lemke ‘96 is planning a spring wedding to Damion Dehnert, a ‘96 graduate of Fort Atkinson High School. The wedding and reception will be in Lake Mills on May 19, 2012. Laura’s four children are the members of the wedding party. Laura’s eldest daughter, Jocelyn McGurk, will serve as Maid of Honor, son Christian will stand up as Best Man, and daughters Katelyn and Madison will be flower girls.

Janell Allar (‘94) is in 2013 a Certified Nursing Assistant, working as a Residential Assistant in Columbus, WI. She also moved from the country farm to the city of Columbus, where she “takes care of my dear mother and enjoys city living.”

Jeremiah “Jeremy” Kunz ‘93 died August 20, 2011 at home near Madison. Funeral services were held at Lord of Love Lutheran in DeForest with Pastor Jerry Ewings officiating.
Michelle (Pontel ‘92) and Chris Wachal married on June 26, 2010. Michelle teaches at St. John in Libertyville, IL. They were blessed with a daughter, Makayla Grace, on January 9, 2012. Says Michelle, “She is a joy to have in our lives and we are truly blessed.”
Mark ‘92 and Tina (Sennhenn ‘91) Schuman welcomed to the family Emmanuel, Julius Walker, Schuman on May 24, 2011. He joins sisters Caroline (18) and Carina (13) Rohn and brothers Christopher (14) and Johnathan (12) Schuman. The family lives in Beaver Dam.
Mark Alberts (’91) was taken home to Jesus on October 11, 2012 after a motorcycle accident. His sister Teresa (Alberts ‘88) Thiele shares that he lived a blessed life with his wife, Meike, in Colorado Springs. He loved to hunt, fish and spend time at their cabin on Pikes Peak. He will be missed by many!
Lisa (Jaeger ‘90) and John Kastengren were married on December 31, 2008. Lisa has been teaching 8th grade math/algebra at Fox River Middle School in Waterford, WI for over 15 years. They welcomed son Hunter John on October 28, 2010.
Jamie Schmidt ‘90 and Nina Heebrink were married December 30, 2011 in Madison. Jamie is currently Associate Music Director with the North American tour of The Lion King. He has conducted symphony orchestra performances for Liza Minnelli’s recent tour as well as the Dallas Symphony’s Cirque Musica program.
In his infinite wisdom, the Lord called home Ruth Marie (Armstrong ‘88) Berglin on February 18, 2013, following a massive heart attack. Surviving family members include her husband, Joel, and her two girls, Janinya and Katriana. Please keep them in your prayers as God’s plans for them unfold.
Renee (Staude ‘88) Meiller works in the Engineering External Relations Office in the UW-Madison College of Engineering, where she was recently promoted to editorial director. She lives in Madison with husband Larry and third-grader Emily; they attend Holy Cross Lutheran Church and School.
Kimara (Knief ‘86) Winters accepted the position of Publications Coordinator in August 2011 at your Lakeside Lutheran High School. She also continues to spend time teaching Written Communication at Waukesha County Technical College in Pewaukee. She and Jim ‘86 live in Watertown with sons Matthias (12) and Isaac (7). Daughter Kiara ‘10 studies music therapy at Concordia University in Mequon and daughter Amanda ‘04 lives in Brisbane, Australia where she works as a librarian/archivist at what Aussies call the “Uni” of Queensland.

Eldest daughter Lyndsey ‘07 graduates from UW–Stout in May 2012 with a degree in Hotel & Restaurant Management. Stephanie ‘09 is a massage therapist at CV in Lake Mills. Nikki ‘09 works as a dental assistant in Watertown. Gary is an electrician with Highway Light & Landscape and Kris works as a hairdresser at Self Image 2.

Tim Luetzow (‘80) was privileged to accompany his father, Hank Luetzow, on a Madison-based Badger Honor Flight in October 2012. Hank served in World War II; Honor Flights exist to give vets a chance to see their memorials in D.C. at no financial cost to them.

Rhodes, of Beaver Dam, spent a year restoring the historical wagon in his woodworking shop in Columbus. His wife, Rita, left, also helps sell popcorn that is grown in Dodge County. “

Leon (‘70) and Donna Jaeger were proud trainmasters of their own float entry, dubbed “The Braggin’ Train,” at the Ixonia Town and Country Days parade summer 2012. Leon collected enough Lil’ Tykes cars to have one for each of his 9 grandchildren, including an empty one for the newest, Anahleah, who wasn’t born until February 16, 2013, to son Scott (‘96) and Kim Jaeger (joining siblings Evelyn, Noah & David). Also involved were daughter Shelly (Jaeger ‘94) and Brad Ratzow (with Alyssa, Benjamin & Christine) and son Ryan (‘99) and Laura (Nehmer ‘99) Jaeger (with Joseph and Matthew).
Jerre ‘69 and Gloria Duerr are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary in September 2012. Several years ago they built a romantic getaway cottage (asecretcottage.com), currently featured on travelwisconsin.com as the first of five romantic getaway cabins. They write: “To God alone be the glory!”
